What is the Children’s Storehouse?
Based in the former gym at the Winslow Centre, the Children’s Storehouse provides good-quality second-hand items of clothing and equipment free of charge to families on low incomes.
We will do our best to meet any genuine need, but here is an idea of the kind of items we are able to supply:
· baby clothes & equipment
· children’s clothes (up to 8 years)
· school uniforms
· baby buggies
· children’s cots/beds
· books & toys
How does it work?
The Storehouse operates primarily through referral of families from Agencies like healthcare professionals, social services, schools and religious organisations.
Once referred, clients can visit the Storehouse between 9.30 am and 11.30 am on a Thursday morning. One of our team will greet them and take a few basic details, after which they will be free to select the items they need over coffee and cake.
Clients are welcome to bring their children along with them. Children will need to remain in the children’s area for Health & Safety reasons, but if they take a fancy to any of the toys and books there, they are welcome to take them home with them.
With regard to equipment, clients are free to take whatever they need. We do have a nominal limit of three sets of clothing per child but, since each client’s needs will be different, this is not set in stone.
Once a client has visited us he or she will be able to make a return visit, if necessary, in three months’ time.
